The wonder about the notion 'freedom', does it make sense?
Senses don't lie, only 'translate' reality directly into BEHAVIOR.
Adapting own behavior to that of other beings that don't lie is straightforward.
Rational 'communication' became a new fighting strategy. Using 'knowledge' as weapon.
In the Western World 'lying' was developed into fighting art, by dividing life in superior and inferior ('dualism' of good and evil).
Dualism was refined since Enlightenment by rationalism in 'aristocracy', catholicism, protestantism, 'justice', 'politics', 'media' ...
Lying became a worldwide problem through agressive expansion of rationality in industrialism and capitalism.

As if words and ideas can't harm. 65 years erlier Jonathan Swift already wrote in the satire GULLIVER'S TRAVELS, Chapter V, "A Voyage to Houyhnhnms" [in my own interpretion]: In the trial of persons accused of crimes against the State the approach is simple for those in power. They write law, within the groundrules of those laws, such that it is easy for their lawyers to defend them and to punish the iritating opposer. |
What I'm going to say might be shocking for Western People.
Since The French Revolution and Enlightenment 'Liberty' and 'Freedom of Speech' became basic rights in a rational Western Society. That doesn't imply though that PURE individualism is 'natural'.
Natural is a tricky word, because evolution erases mistakes. Rational predators became brilliant in creating myths and killing with words. And all escaped people,
if not in hidden way gradually poisoned by the Justice of Individual 'Equality' as in Western Democracy, are targets for vomiting of such 'human snakes'.Splendid exampe: The Voice of America (no offense)
In Western Democracy 'formal lying' (using 'words' without link to reality , like the completely weird divide politics=dreamworld and quite real sport) was developed to a religious art, in circles of politicians, soldiers and managers.

Freedom for Lies Freedom of Action is producing fighterplanes like: Starfighters, Crusaders, Stratofortresses, Thunderstreaks, ThunderChiefs, VooDoos, Hustlers, Delta Daggers, Buccaneers, Phantoms, Blackbirds, Hawker Harriers, Intruders, Dragon Ladies, Skyhawks, Lightnings, Tomcats, Eagles, Tigers, Thunderbolts, Falcons, Hawks, Ravens, Hornets, Tornados, NightHawks, Lancers, Tigersharks, Spirits, Super Hornets, Raptors, Joint Strike Fighters Freedom of Speech is talking about a 'just war theory' by managers of: Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Rolls Royce, IBM..... Freedom of speech is the Individual Liberty to say with 'clouds of doubt' anything you want (prejudices like 'Blacks are stupid and lazy' or 'Osama bin Laden planned 11 september') and create shadows of doubt as meant by Nietzsche in "The Wanderer and his Shadow). Often linked to the idea democracy. The dubious 'rational' concept 'right to freedom of speech' is heavily grounded in Western dominated international law. People with ritual behavior 'rationality' claim that a 'rational' opinion can't be a lie. More honest is saying that a 'rational' opinion is a 'rational' hypothesis. Nevertheless it might deviate miles from common sense, and be very destructive.  Already Friedrich Nietzsche in Also Sprach Zarathustra and Marcuse in Critical Theory and One Dimensional Man each in their own way pointed to this way of using rational truth' as 'THE Truth' (absolutism). The 'rational' approach of social problems within rational thinking and Western Justice is disastrous. That is impregnantly shown in the Israel Palestine Conflict, the bitter result of 2 world wars about Power.

In 1619 twenty captured Africans survive hell on a ship run by Dutch traders and arrive as slaves in The New World (Jamestown). The Baptists in America (a protestant sect) had shown that for protestants blacks were considered as to be exploited animals by starting the brutal very profitable/convenient parasitism 'slavery'. In 1620 The 'Leiden Group' of the English Pilgrims settled in New England (Massachusetts). After many years in Holland (in the equally possessed calvinist sect in university town Leiden) being exiled as 'possessed minds'. The Puritans were seeking a new life of religious freedom (liberty) in America. French protestants (Huguenots ) were banned from Canada, and settled in the US around the river 'Mississippi' (Cajun territory). During Enlightenment a Dutch expedition of 90 Calvinist settlers (adherents of the theological fantasies of John Calvin), under the command of Jan van Riebeeck, founded the first permanent settlement near the South African Cape of Good Hope in 1652. Especially Calvinists were drawn by the myth of 'apartheid'. The dubious 'mind body split' doctrine was changed in: whites have lot of spirit and blacks as much as animals
. Puritan myths Myth Set 1: The personal biblical christianity of the Puritans and the Pilgrims stimulated responsible citizenry and social harmony. This brought political stability to America. Response: The fundamental belief in 'individuality' (liberty) and in immaterial gods stimulated egoism and rigid belief in ages old Roman prejudices about history. The wish for 'liberty' brought murderous 'competition' (the RIGHT of the Fittest) to America. Liberty was stable for as long as there was 'growth'. Individual freedom is close to Dictatorship, common apes do better. Myth Set 2: The Reformation in France had been crushed. Later the French Revolution crushed The Church (protestantism) and trusted in human reason. State secularism led France into a reign of terror, dictatorship and war. Response: Seeing Protestantism as THE Church is SLIGHTLY corrupting common sense history. Nowhere you find more trust in 'reason' than in the "Bible Belt" of The US. Describing life in France with terrorism, dictatorship and warfare needs no response. There is a lot more common sense in France and Canada than in the paranoid US-Empire. . Freedom of Expression (freedom of torturing senses) 
An image 'girl with shawl' is offending to practically no human.That is COMPLETELY different if the girl is "Anne Frank" and the shawl an 'Arafat shawl'. For Jews Anne Frank is symbol for The Holocaust, and Arafat is symbol for terrorism. For Palestines Anne Frank is symbol for Suppression of Freedom, and Arafat is symbol for resistance. So Palestines might appreciate a new symbol 'Anne Frank with Arafat shawl' as symbol of Fight for Freedom (anti-terrorism). For Jews 'Anne Frank' and 'Arafat' are like good and evil Senses are physical, emotion is behavior. Freedom of Expression is be culturally dependent TORTURE of senses. Torture was banned . Religious Liberty Puritans were extreme fundamentalist Protestants (Pilgrim, Lutheran, Calvinist etcetera) who viewed the Reformation as a victory of true Christianity over Roman Catholicism. They believed that the Universe is 'made by God', and that man is inherently sinful and corrupt. Man might be rescued from damnation only by 'God's will. 'God's will man is thought to see 'the light' best by studying the Bible and the universe which the male 'God' created and which he controlls. Protestants often cite somethings like: "we see your light, but are blind" (the one: there indeed is a lot of blind fury in protestant circles). 
(1623) New Jersey into English Puritan hands (originally Puritan New Netherlands)(1624) New Amsterdam into Dutch Puritan hands. (1636) Rhode Island became a free heaven for religious hardliners. (1639) "Fundamental Orders" are given the colony Rhode Island. (1631-1638) Delaware from Dutch Calvinist into Swedish Lutheran hands. Again Dutch Calvinist, and finally English Anglican. 'Liberty' was a murderous game. (1653) New Amsterdam got independence from the Dutch. (1664) Peter Stuyvesant ( Dutch Reformed church member described as despotic, blunt and VERY cruel) surrendered to English forces. Quote Stuyvesant: I shall do as I please New Amsterdam was given to the brother of King Charles II, the Duke of York (later James II), and renamed New York. This particular 'Duke of York' considered hunting and murdering peasants as 'jolly good fun' and paid his hobbies by trading (under Royal Charter) African 'slaves' branded with his initials. James II also liked hunting women. Lots of women. Syphilis annihilated the brains of this cousin of Louis XIV (the Sun King). (1665) Thomas Willett friend of Peter Stuyvesant, and the first mayor of New York was a Pilgrim Father who came from exile in Dutch Leiden to the New World His great grandson Colonel Marinus Willet was a leader of the Sons of Liberty in New York (very agressive patriots), also mayor of New York . About 3 ages later: German Puritans support Nazism, because they agree with the biological idea of Dr. Mengele 'Arian superiority'. About 3.75 ages later: Kennedy as first and only catholic US president is murdered. About 4 ages later: Fundamentalists within the Muhammedan version of Islam start repeating history. To stop injustice AND (again) to get religious freedom. Will US citizens end as exploited Muhammedan slaves (as in Sudan), or will 'the world' finally halt the mind virus 'fascism'. The by western politicians stimulated quarreling about 'power' between Buddhism, Muhammedan Islam and Western Christianity only multiplies profits of War Industries like IBM, Northrop Grumman, Martin Lockheed, Boeing... It is still based on Power thinking. Nevertheless these 3 major cultures TOGETHER have all the ethical characteristics needed for the next World Culture. . Open debate It is frustrating to exchange opinions with say Americans or Italians who think things like: all Brazilian women are whores, or most muslim men are potential terrorists. That's why I only give own opinions to think about: 'Rationality' in essence is: a dual view on life, seeing reality as good and evil, black and white, warm and cold,..... All non western people see reality as one. Many Asians for instance use the idea ki-energy combined with the ideas Yin and Yang. Think of a flame, it is VERY hot inside and warm outside. BUT it does not consist of a heaven flame and a hell flame. It is worth respectfully exploring if Brazilian women are whores or if most muslims are terrorists, and to let them decide if all Americans are rigid puritans or all Italians rigid catholics. The origin of this dual thinking was superiority thinking, WE the superior Romans and THEY the inferior 'pagans'. Verbal language in Western view is related to the Western ideas consciousness' and 'understanding. Other languages are translated in tables called 'dictionaries'. As if deep Brazilian 'emociones' can be translated with shallow American 'emotions'. Verbal language is reality presented in sound. But not necessarily the same reality. Languages are cultural VIEWS. Luckily all earth languages are based on common sense, otherwise people from different cultures could make no sense of each other. Single sided views (prejudices) can be communicated, if within the same paradigm (way of sensing reality). Because all earth views on life are based on shared common sense. But in case of different paradigms a paradigm shift is needed (a discrete JUMP in local common sense). 1. Freedom of Speech over more than 1 ethics is destructive. In 'rational' logic making jokes abouts 'god' has become tolerated, but in other logics this might be a major offense. Its just not done. Then freedom of speech in such a case raises STRONG emotions (even among progressive people who dont belief in gods) 2. Realize that the Western World is an idealized world that thinks to do 'good'. And in the process of doing good killed most South American Indians, North American Indians, Aboriginals, Polynesians, .... And treated Africans worse than we now treat dogs. Then it invented industrialism and capitalism. It started war in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq. And brought earth global warming. Outside The Western World are common sense worlds were people only want to survive and have fun. So it's about getting rid of ideals (abstract fantasies), like 'freedom of speech', democracy, human RIGHTS. I don't worry about the shape of freedom of speech WITHIN say the USA (though it became totally corrupted). But I pose that behind this non-idea is a dual view on life. Freedom of Speech in one place includes Wars on Terrorism elsewhere. If 'freedom of speech' is replaced with 'open debate' within cultures in say Japanese language, than things make more sense. The ancient Greece of Socrates and Plato trusted on open debate of respected men. Honest comparing of experience in word duels. . Clearvoyant View What is obvious in the Western World, and particularly its Stronghold US: - Monopoly: An awfully thin toplayer owns all 'wealth', and plays abstract reality (rationality) with 'money' as ethical value - That same toplayer sends members of common sense reality to 'prison', using 'money ethics' executed by western politicians, western armies, western police, western lawyers and western media (western power) - Division of all life in Good (abstract reality =Western World = 'First World') and Evil (common sense reality = 2nd World = 3rd World = ...) - Extreme Skill in Western countries, but total lack of Ethical Creativity (zombie behavior) - Inviting Terrorism by starving non-Western people, annihilating environment and 'dirty war' after 'dirty war'
