In the 21st century the 3 left entwining major Total Paradigm lines are the Roman Christian Paradigm line, it's Muslim copy the Muhammedan Paradigm line and by far the eldest of the three, the Buddhist Paradigm. They were initiated by before start common persons: in the Roman Empire the muslim Palestinian carpenterJesus, in the Arabian Empire the trader Muhammad, and in the Mauryan Empire in pre-Buddhist India the Persian prince Gautama Siddharta.

These three individuals must have shared being extremely selfconfident and persistent (almost stubborn), an eye for detail, and an enthousiastic enjoying of the totality of life. This to be able to stay patient and keep trying to convince contemporaries of their revolutionary views after an endless flow of disappointments (try imagining being perfectly sound of mind and going happily and unaffected your own way, while 999 out of 1000 people consider you as innocently mad). But take care: the "all people are equal" view on life of open minded Judean leader Jesus was immediality 'killed' by fundamental Hebrew Pharisees of the Kingdom Israel in collaboration with the power-thinking Roman Empire. This view was replaced by Roman Christianity (Catholicism). The trader Mohammed later was attracted by the Roman view especially slavery when writing his 'Koran' (stating that Mohammedans are more equal than people from other religions). Buddhism, is in broad lines a copy of Zoroastrianism. Gautama Buddha as Persian prince knew Zoroastrianism very well. To honor their utter finally successful perseverance each in his own paradigm line after a very long time (and after death) was considered as a prophet of some god.

The Intelligence in Feelings or Emotions

The Catholic Paradigm line was developed by Descartes into Rationalism. He was not a prophet but a 'scientist'. Descartes can be seen as the godfather of computers. Recently Karl Popper thought to give 'rationalism' a human face, with critical rationalism. In fact because Popper saw 'human' as 'spiritual' instead of as 'advanced animal behavior' it became even more tricky.
Marx was only seen as a prophet in socialist worlds, otherwise people in church would now pray to him. But he sure was a Visionary Philosopher. Popper was a confused scientist, who saw humans with 'pure reason' as superior to emotional animals and invented the machine-like 'falsification'.

In fact both rationalism and computalism also influenced Buddhism and Islam (only especially 'rationalism' much later). But the relativism in Buddhism remained, and in Islam emotion kept much more cultured.
That resulted in the phenomenon that in the paradigm lines later and thus less influenced by 'rationalism', the possession of feeling kept playing a bigger role than in 'rational' Christianity. And it showed to have a value that people in these worlds care to defend. Let's in the Western part of the world cherish that lesson.


Personal Paradigms are much more flexible than Total Paradigms (cultures). For instance it's not clever to say to your partner in a blunt way something like: Your bum is way too big. 9 out of 10 times his/her Personal Paradigm will let him/her feel shocked. Because a Personal Paradigm creates an expectation pattern, and the expectation is that such a remark is 'not done'. Pinching Personal Paradigms hurts moods, pinching Total Paradigms (collective moods) for a 'long time' invites terrorism..


And MIND: Paradigms are not only scientific and multiple Paradigms can also exist simultaneously











Blindness for Basic of Common Sense

I've been pondering about how explaining the phenomenon Paradigm or Paranormal Behavior. 'Paranormal' is like the physical condition color blindness. You just don't see some things, or you show things that others don't see. Like when taking a photograph of a scene person 1 sees in the group someone 'physically incomplete', and for person 2 (who measures the IDEA 'disability', and doesn't recognize wheelchairs) there is even no clue of the presence of the IDEA 'disabled person'.

In case of Paradigms a partial blind spot is caused by ignoring a crucial part of common sense. Say such an basic of common sense is 'emotion'. Then for a western person with a largely rational view a stone being thrown is 'measured' as 'fighting', and that experience triggers the 'mental' control function, while a muslim with a much more emotional view only sees some some frustrated kids. And a buddhist sees turmoil in a group caused by disbalance. And that again might result in killing kids out of wanting to be in control, triggering furious protests to ventilate emotions. Or trying to find new balance (not a compromise). Protests trigger more control, and the resulting suppression asks for terrorism.

This is very obvious in bureaucracy. Some 'see' the emotional side of an event, while others only observe that rules must be applied. There is no conflict, only very annoying parallel behavior. It doesn't help at all to get angry (only is often refreshing). This difference in observation is quite clear in sport. Part of the audience sees an injustice, and others including the referee only see an unemotional obstruction of some rule. And the sportsman in question might only worry about loosing some matches, and economical loss.

That results in hilarious interviews with participants totally talking parallel. Talking crisscross about respect, rules and economy. For a Buddhist being respected is the result of showing wisdom, for a Roman Christian the result of handling within the Ten Commandments of the Bible, and for a capitalist caused by earning a lot of money. For a Buddhist rules are there for balancing, for Christians commandments are found in the Bible and for capitalists rules influence salary. Finally for a Buddhist an economy should be balanced, for a Christian an economy should handle within the rules of the Bible, and capitalist want an economy that guarantees a luxurous income.
Listening with all 3 views in mind is enjoying great cabaret.

When discussing difficult political concepts like 'democracy' or ' capitalism' this often result in plots that are unimaginably hilarious. Stuff to wet your pants from laughing. This realizing of the utter futility of trying to influence debaters in different realities make 'wise' people smile so much (i.e. Buddha or Dalai Lama). They might even 'see' a way out, but are aware that until the others see it too, that they are only non-playing outsiders. They could as well not exist

Being in different paradigms can cause serious miscommunication, even resulting in war. Roman Christianity and Muhammedan Islam share a dual view on life (belief in THE Good and THE Bad). Egoism and in the end slavery is inherent. Buddhism sees life as ONE, but in practice often also is suffering from ego-ism. Balance is needed.





Paradigm Shifts

A paradigm shift is a sudden essential change or jump in thought

Only AFTER acceptance this sticker is attached (otherwise it is not a real one)
and from then on it spreads, first in its birth culture, and then over the world as fast as a (benign) virus

That doesn't imply that former knowledge is totally abandoned, but that it is embedded in a new system of thought. As many present procedures conveniently still take the round earth as just being approximately flat.

Nurses (m/f) are experts in handling people living in different mindworlds (paradigms), based on their talents: observation, having patience and showing respect.



It becomes time to forget about the origin and concentrate on the meaning. When you ask what is a bike you're not asking for the name of its inventor.








The Inventor

To invent a notion like 'paradigm' was almost a paradigm shift in itself. Only to be a 'paradigm' shift it had needed a broader acceptance. Untill then the continuity of science and of life was taken for granted, and largely stil is. The real genius Thomas Kuhn introduced the term (and genius meant in the original meaning, not in the inflated one).
Mahatma Gandhi almost realized a paradigm shift, and made The British Army leave India.
Gandhi's common sense view on life did not become general in India, because fear of loosing grip on religious reality easily results in cultural frenzy. Gandhi was murdered by a Hindu fundamentalist.

Genius means recognizing fantasy and aiming for common sense reality. It takes being 'stubborn' and self confident to take a road far away from the crowd. It doesn't take being a ghost, and just results in ending up in common sense reality, the act of genius is to open up this new road. The simularity with ghost-like experiences is that until then unrecognized phenomenons are made into sense. For instance recognizing 'terrorists' as extremely in their common sense frustrated people. In Roman times 'Amazons' were treated as tricky animals, Romans were not able to recognize "Amazons' as well trained females.
Kuhn cut the ribbon, but his way out didn't become widely popular, because Kuhn himself did not jump.

After Kuhn the word 'paradigm' became widely used because of misunderstanding. Many firms active in innovation took the term in their name. Without knowing that is an almost correct use of the word, because within any paradigm billions of semi-continuous changes extend existent ideas.
Such drilling deep, or building high in science is suddenly essentially changed by a 'paradigm shift'. Semi Continuous change can be very inventive, but always stays within the same system of thought.
A paradigm shift is a discrete jump. 'Continuity' is an ABSTRACT concept (fantasy), however much surgery only extremely gifted people become Galileo's.

That's why adding the word 'shift' to the notion 'paradigm' would generally be merely arrogant, and more like a joke.

The last really essential cultural 'storm' happened two thousand years ago at the start of the Christian Timeline.

In a matter of years to decades, the new anti slavery view on life 'Christianity' was popping up all over the former Western Roman Empire.
Paul and other followers of Jesus began 'preaching' to non-Jews as well as Judean Jews and pro Roman Israelian Jews after the death of Jesus.
The perfect infrastructure of the Roman imperial system was a tremendous help.


303: Emperor Diocletian orders a general persecution of the Christians
306: Emperor Constantine, the most powerful person in the Western World converted to Roman Christianity
380: Emperor Theodosius I proclaims Roman Christianity as the sole religion of the Roman Empire


 So after a slow start with the official assassination of state enemy Jesus, finally enormous change happened within 75 years.
The people doing the 'preaching' first were treated by those in power as terrorists. Because their message was not at all religious but political. They spoke about a new way of living, without slavery.
The Roman leaders in a last effort tried to prolong existance of the Empire. They made the for the Roman rulers threatening political message of the former terrorists into less much threatening official rigid state religion. And they took over the Nicomachean Ethics of the just 'conquered' Hellenist Greek Empire of Alexander the 'Great'. That's why the brandnew state religion following Aristotle saw Romans as 'divine' and suddenly treated Romans as 'spiritual' and tolerated slavery of non-Roman human animals. Too late for the survival of the Roman politicians, but through his trick the later Pope's succeeded in creating essential confusion.

The role of Jesus was being initiator. He must have been a brilliant early version of Che Gueverra in convincing his disciples of completely new thoughts (revolutionary ideas). That must have been the driving reason behind their 'preaching' after his death.

History repeats itself. The US president became a 'B. junior the Terrible' of the Western World, still attacking Persia that openly points at dubious flaws in Roman Christianity and being afraid of mysterious China. This time the unique structure of Internet combined with language English allowed me quick overview and I needed no disciples, and detailed study of data. And it allowed quick worldwide spreading of the common sense Message. Only being recognized is still a puzzle. I'm publishing websites with common sense ethics, only being satisfied if some sites reaches the top 10 of Google.

When you ask what is a paradigm and when should one really speak about a shift usually the answer is: Paradigm shift is a notion introduced by the American 20th century philosopher/sociologer/physicist Thomas Kuhn followed by a bray of difficult words.

That is when you did ask a scientist, otherwise the original use of the term is generally unknown.

To grasp the meaning of paradigm shift is good to know that:

Only a shock experrience can free people out of the 'religious' prejudice 'normal'. End 15th century the sailors of the little fleet of sailing ships of Christopher Columbus were awfully scared to drop of the world. Because their 'normal' world was flat and over THE edge was 'hell'. When they stayed alife and instead they discovered America (they thought India) their mood changed at once enlightened from anxious prejudice in victorious pride.

Before they quite colorfully imagined dropping in a red hot burning hell when crossing the border of the world. This fundamental skepticism was immediately forgotten. Now they could say something similar to: "The Pope helped us to believe that the earth was round". And from then on this belief spread. The Catholic hell inherently moved from the border of a flat world to underground in a round world. In fact the earth is close to round, and is a living object (though not intelligent, but with very difficult to predict behavior).

Galilei till then was generally seen as an unbeliever, and than suddenly in 1492 postmortem became a famous and beloved scientist. This was as a consequence of Columbus discovering America in that year. Had he still been alive then danger of being burned at the stakes in name of the pope would have abruptly changed in fear for being publicly cuddled to death by followers of that same pope.
Only before getting well earned acknowledgment Galilei died of old age, and several years before his death because of uncatholic statements by this very pope was condemned to not leaving his villa. As often afterwards happened a scientist only long after burial was honored.
By the way, Galilei published outside the reach of the long arm of the pope in Calvinist Holland (University of Leiden).

That's a good example of a paradigm shift (in the Western World, because I think some other cultures already realized that the earth was round). The old paradigm: 'the world if flat' shifting in the new one 'the world is round'.



I guess that in 1492 there were several clearly distinguishable major Total Paradigm lines: the Christian, the Muslim, Buddhist, Negro, Aboriginal and Indian lines. Two of them have by now almost disappeared. Let's cherish the variety in the other 4.

In the time of birth of the Christianity people used the name 'prophet' to indicate persons who announced a sudden change in beliefs. Like the deeply settled and destructive belief that Romans were all powerfull, and others destined to be slaves. Jesus' thoughts created suddenly the perspective that stimulated the Judah Jews to fight again (the Kingdom of Israel collaborated with the Romans).
Jesus was no threat to the Romans as a person, only for Israelian Jewish leaders because his (hidden) being in line of King Solomon was a serious weapon. Anyway his thoughts that gave Juda Jews new hope sure were. The Roman army tried to prevent a revolution in Judah.
Jesus was born in Palestine in 6BC. The Roman colonial army was not really alarmed by this young prophet, but failed to prevent and suppress the new hope to end slavery. This lead in 550 AC finally to the fall of the Roman Empire. The role of Jesus was destroying the basic beliefs that Romans were all powerful and that their slaves were animals like sheep. Jesus as potential Judean leader was murdered by Israelian pharisees assisted by the Romans but as a martyr started the fall of the Roman Empire and therefore in this part of the world was honored like a god.

Two ages later logically judged the American Empire surprisingly or not behaves quite similar to the Roman one. The major difference is that the speed of communication has increased enormously. Silently trying to kill a 'prophet' has become even more risky. Just like twenty ages ago military power of 'the Empire' nowadays is mainly used to defend commercial positions.
Valued in present currency the Romans protected billions of dollars of investments in the Middle East. At that time not yet in oil, but in things like food and clothing production, and slave supply. The Roman Empire dominated all the regions around the Mediterranean Sea, that is most of Europe, Middle East and Northern Africa.

The present American Empire is even much bigger. But again for an important part this military and economic power is based on the essential belief all over their part of the world to be undefeatable. Off course it is tremendously strong but '11 September' showed that is also vulnerable. Most male inhabitants of the USA outside their army have become too fat, and the female ones become more and more artificial. I wouldn't invest in this part of the world.

So be aware that military and political forces can have VERY strong reasons to try to prevent certain paradigms. They even might have done so. It without any doubt was the major motivation behind the liquidation of Salvador Allende in Chili. Economical forces through the entire human history showed to be able to be without mercy.




Prophets

I suddenly realized that there were many potential 'prophets' in 'my' Christian Paradigm. After some thinking I came up with Jesus, Marco Polo, Jeanne d'Arc, Leonardo da Vinci, Michel Angelo, Rene Descartes, Robin Hood, Karl Marx, Haile Selassie, Hitler and Che Gueverra.
That at the same time shows that not everybody having the talent causes a noticed paradigm shift. And that many famous persons in history caused ownly further growth in 'dead forests'. Diamonds in deserts. A timeline of major paradigm shifts in Western Culture aimed at renewal of culture is quite surprising.
The obvious creative energy can be spent in making inventions/discoveries, or be spent in warfare or freedom fighting. And the talent can be used too in a destructive way, as Hitler showed. World War II was caused by power thinking in England, France and Germany. Adolf Hitler only was an extremely gifted spark. He also showed how (partially) shrude a person with such a talent can become. I'm convinced that becoming this way in his case was not predestined.

My guess is that Hitler and gang were helped in their seats by forces in the German Army. Then afterwards they proved too strong to eliminate. Because at that time France, England, Germany, Russia and USA were all thinking in power politics. For top politicians who reasoned 'rational' not the brute behavior of the German SS was worrying, but losing their own aspirations to grab world power. NOT the German submarines or the brutality of the German regime did the US decide to join the fighting, but Japan showing to be superior in tactics and bravery and humiliating them by attacking Pearl Harbor.

Hitler almost created a new paradigm for a huge part of the world. He must have had a 'magnetic' imagination. On a local but equally devastating scale the same was done by Pol Pot in Cambodja. Again somemeone with a probably a 'heroin-like' imagination. Hitler made 2 big mistakes: attacking England (he thought he was forced to do so), and cheating Stalin (out of historical German fear for the huge neighbour nation Russia).

Similarly to probably the top of the German army at the start of WWII the USA much later during the Vietnam War first quite mistakenly funded Pol Pot in Cambodja. This indirectly resulted in at least 1 million deaths (possibly double)

Twenty ages ago it was common keeping sheep. Jesus realized that for Romans all original inhabitants of colonies were animals like sheep (Henkt: this view the Romans took over from Aristotle the tutor of Alexander the Terrible, who considered all non-Greek as animals). The Romans kept their human sheep ignorant, but saw their 'sheep' as an essential and very valuable property. He also realized that in herds sheep ar as uncontrollable as bigger animals.











By the way, the fellow prophets of Jesus in Islam and Buddhism were both honored in their native empire. Roman Christianity shifted attention from the message of Jesus to The Holy Spirit. And the message of the 21st century paradigm is NOT aimed only at the USA. It points to the necessity of joining Christianity, Islam and Buddhism. The time is riper than ever before.
I advise to gladly use this chance, prophets are a scarse product. Next time the Paradigm Capitalism would be awfully strong. It is still not a Total Paradigm, but not far from becoming it. Then really a Superman would be needed. I don't envy him or her. In that case a peaceful revolution will have become impossible, and a thirld world war is inevitable. I.e. The Western World against the Non Christian Not Capitalist World.

So the talent is no guarantee for being and becoming 'sane'. Da Vinci was the only one who clearly realized his position. He was a 'joker', and played with his similarity in role with Jesus. This modest gay man considered the human body an ugly design, but liked humans anyway. Without knowing he created the modern female image with Mona Lisa. He spent his creativity in making amazing technical designs. 400 years before in rationalism the Wright brothers succeeded in flying, da Vinci without the burden of rational thought already designed beautiful working flying designs. Just the result of looking at the products of nature (in this case birds) and minute technical drawing. Nietzsche was also a tremendous observer. He realized the bad influence of (roman catholic) rationalism, and wrote a satire on the (Roman Catholic) bible, ending in a joke (Also sprach Zarathustra. In my own explanotary very short version).

There surely have been more gifted persons, but not in every case the talent was discovered and used. Many must have been mistaken for mildly insane. And in western societies most of them got the advice to study mathematics or physics. That resulted in people who digged deep in math and astronomy like Bohr, Heisenberg and Einstein, but also in a terrible waste of talent. Black holes are interesting for playing interstellary golf, but in near future golf will still be played on earth.

Responsible for Partial Paradigm shifts were Elizabeth Nightingale, Madame Curie, Charles Darwin, Indira Ghandi and Nelson Mandela. But also many famous names out of music like Elvis, the Beatles or Madonna. Each succeeded in some way to make the own world recognizable to many others.
Human brain mutants obviously exist, why not?: it's only a way of saying that someone uses his/her brain in slightly different way. It's a pity that not one of them was used as object of serious study in brain neurology. This could lead to more progress than improving DNA copying methods. Being only brain-mutants they are common people, who just happen to be partially extremely talented and thus clever. Most of them are lonely, but certainly not frightening. They can handle solitude amazingly well, but solving only selfmade puzzels is not really fulfilling.

Parallel or Unmerged Paradigms

Parallel Paradigms are the common situation.
The Christian Paradigm was already partly merged with the Buddhist one and is at present merging with the Muslim Paradigm. These three widely spread Paradigms largely overlap, but complete joining will take a special Total Paradigm Shift.
Though the notion 'overlapping' is misleading. Per individual parts of the paradigms are joined, and parts are totally apart. Another misleading term is 'partially integrated'. Per individual in case of some specific subject that is impossible, either there is total integration or no integration at all.

In another field, related to the Mind Body Problem there are two dominant paradigms: The Physicalist Paradigm (mind=body) and the Dualist Paradigm (mind#body). They seem still far away from joining.

Another well known example is sex between members of two contradicting paradigms (often called cultures). Two persons can have a perfect sexual relation, and find out that further 'things' don't work.
And think about the persistent fantasy of Christian fathers dreaming about veiled belly dancing Muslim girls, and Muslim men dreaming about harems full of young voluptuous Christian girls. Christian women have nice bellies too, and Muslim women can be very sexy.














Progress in Nature

Nature makes in case of humanity progress by continuously slightly changing the minds of individuals. And then suddenly by pure chance and the power of big numbers one of those generally insignificant changes 'hits the jackpot' and appears to result in a paradigm shift.


In fact the so called initiator is just the very first person who is BROADLY recognized entering the new paradigm. The paradigm shift caused a mutancy in his/her brain. This mutancy starts a sequence of associations. This makes that at once he/she sees a lot of things from a different perspective.
Not his different thoughts cause a paradigm shift, but the new paradigm makes him/her observe differently and causes deviating thoughts. He/she 'only' has to be in the mental condition to be the first one to harvest the fruits of thought in the new world, and prove able to adequately promote this fertile destination. These fruits are seen as nothing special in the new paradigm, and as of having revolutionary flavour when eaten by someone still possessing the taste cultured in the old one. In other times people therefore spoke about prophets, and about something like 'the promised land'.
Jesus in his time was a pain in the ass to the Romans, because he threatened to crush the belief that Romans were all powerful. In others words the one that predicted a new paradigm. Nothing religious about that.
But there is one thing more. Initiators got their first flash of mind at least a year before their fellow humans. It works kathylizing, and every day causes new associations to be made. That's like an aha feeling when being told a joke with a totally unexpected outcome. That's why during the rest of their lifetime initiators with reason are considered as very wise (though during their life people who don't know them very well also consider them to be innocently mad).













Brain as Jellyfish

It helps to see the human brain as a jellyfish, and its nerves as tentacles.
Because a human brain on earth comes closest to unlimited creativity (exploiting intelligence or associative talents in whatever paradigm), but acts in essence as a simple basic creature.
That means that brains can be trained, like any animal. The nice thing is that part of the functionality of the brain can be used to train the rest.

Different Total Paradigms are the result of different training. And everybody knows: 'it is very difficult to learn an old donkey new tricks'.

The focus on the outside body is one of those paradigms. In fact 'antennes' of senses come closest to revealing the inside. I.e. eyes, noses, ears.
And female boobs are some of the antennes for sense feelings, but their shape really doesn't matter.

And to disabled people I say: Crippled Jellyfish don't dy easily, and can do a lot.



I wouldn't be surprised at all, if extraterrestrial beings consider us as bodies living in symbiosis with a jellyfish like intelligence.

I can imagine before say 1700 people thought to be controlled by a god. Because new ideas just pop up almost everyday. But remember I'm just a common jellyfish-human who by chance got into a process that got him say 1 age ahead. Like a jellyfish that moved for a while like a speedboat. That's why I get all those ideas, a statistic process was started that has a big chance of hitting something interesting.

To join the few remaining Total Paradigms on earth, they all have to continue in the same new Total Paradigm

This time 11 commandmends, or more guidelines:

1. Prevent shame. It is an awful directive power
2. Take care to controll creativity. It otherwise can take any shape. Train near to complete respect to older and wiser Jellyfishes
3. Stimulate playing. Fighting is only 1 type of play. Focus on all shapes
4. Train to learn to trust own creativity, before using the backup memory
5. Respect all bodies, and see shape only as shape
6. Train bodies, Jellyfish or Human intelligence depends as much on them, as vice versa
7. Train Communication, it's THE way for any Paradigm to gain strength
8. Train Isolation, contemplation is of utter importance
9. Respect ALL life. Killing is part of the game. Do it in respect
10. Young humans are very 'tough'. Protection is nice, but don't strangle their creativity
11. Start training at young age. Young Jellyfish are much more flexible

As far as I can see, these general tips fit very well as a next Paradigm in Buddhism, Christianity and Islam, as well as in an African Paradigm.

Imagine that you are living in an aquarium (Age of the Aquarium). You can't swim but controll a body that is able to do so. The actual shape of that body might be long/short, thick/thin, weird/normal, as long as it can survive in the aquarium. If it can with only one leg, one arm or however, that's fine.
You make as much fun together as possible. Having you body swim fast, 'dance' in the water, having XTC parties, listening to or making music. And everything that's interesting.

The fun to do things in a group (collectivism) at the same time makes yourself feel pleasant (individualism). To accomplish that feeling everything is tried out that is tolerated by the others. Playing with jellyfish from other Total Paradigms is great fun, but also difficult because you can't predict at first their reactions. You got used to your Personal Paradigm within your own Total Paradigm, only tamed by others live in the same Total Paradigm.








But in the aquarium jellyfishes are mixed from several different Total Paradigms, used to eat each other

Mutancies in the brain cause physical changes. These changes are just physical change in evolution. Say having 6 fingers proves to be an advantage (to press the button to fire missiles). Then after thousands of years everybody might have 6 fingers (and 6 toes because that trait is connected). That is a relatively slow change, as studied by Darwin. But since humans mastered using dreams (ideas), the result was also a tricky talent for faster change.

That is because this the brain mutancy 'using dreams' is like 'using drugs', and can be used positive way or result in total addictionn. It opens up new possibilities in the associative thought process. Used in constructive way such a 'mutant' at once like a thought blizzard increases his/her archive of reactions to reality. That can result in a Partial Paradigm change, when the results influence only a sub-culture. This probably happened to Einstein.
It can also result in a Total Paradigm change when such a 'thought blizzard' joins two major paradigm lines. The thoughts of Jesus in the Christian Paradigm line triggered a thought change that ended slave mentality. That gradually totally changed society. But that mentality (a 'thought blizzard' that became 'hard drug') took 500 years to beat and then after about 1000 years returned.

My guess is that 'power used as drug' during the Crusades by '2nd quality leaders' in the homelands, and heavily irritated returning natural leaders like Robin Hood was responsible for creativity to hide, and inherently for the start of rationalism (to explain the change).The first one who noticed this phenomenon, recognized its devastating influence, and warned against it was Nietzsche. But people thought that by indicating 'slave mentality' he attacked religion. He surely did, because religion facilitates slave mentality, BUT in fact he cherished having PERSONAL beliefs.

Change in the way of seeing things is more rapid in leading circles. ' On the street' it can take ages before considerable changes are felt. It thus especially means that the difference in looking at the world between top layers of society and 'the masses' is rapidly growing.

That explains nicely why three ages after the paradigm shift that introduced rationalism in the Western World there are still feelings left. Because such feelings were denied in 17th century rationalism, and they were without worry exchanged for an absolute belief in only logic.

Three centuries later we live in a world dominated by the near Total Paradigm communism/capitalism. It became ruled by a toplayer of rational notions loving people showing little feelings. They think about reintroducing death penalties and nuclear bombs, and they are quite speedy in calling people mind terrorists when they only disagree in thought (but praise freedom of mind).
Rational capitalist officials are in general only slightly less corrupt than Roman officials were twenty ages ago. And most of their decisions are based on keeping their power and economic possessions undisturbed.

Money sharks manage the majority of multinationals.

The Manhattan Project at the end of WWII to produce the first atom bombs was almost completely filled with European scientists, of which a majority German. The American input came mainly from the Jew Robert Oppenheimer. Further think of names like Otto Frisch, Klaus Fuchs (Germany), Niels Bohr (Denmark), Felix Bloch (Switzerland), James Chadwick (Britain) and Edward Teller (Hungary).
They never meant their invention to kill 375.000 Japanese civilians directly, and indirectly many thousands more till today. That was decided by president Truman and his (economic?) advisers.

It is not far from true saying that the USA becoming a world power is a European made product. And USA's economic take over of the Asian region was based on two atom bombs. Churchill and Roosevelt confirmed the line stroke borders from WWI.

Seen from a wider perspective it's only a change of the center of power in the Christian Paradigm.

BUT also a first serious attack to get World Power in Christian hands.

The shift in my case was an associative flash of mind, causing a mutancy responsible for linking two until then disjoint brain areas of information. I guess information about absolute knowledge and that of relative knowledge. This made that my mind world partially changed completely. As a 'madman' I started making associations between these two areas of knowing. Mutancy in itself will be no surprise to neurology, only some ages ago there developed another kind of phenomenon. Mastering 'ideas' (dreaming0, opened a possibility for faster change in evolution. It is also very tricky, when considering dreams as inphysical. In that case not the total physical body shows quite 'slow' change, but dreams (ideas) change in a relatively short period.

One of my peculiar (?) traits is to try associate the notions behind every word that I hear. In that way I sometimes produce completely unintuitive jokes, and as well I wake up almost daily having a bright new idea. I got used to write down those bright moments in articles. First they seemed vague and temporary, but became ever more stable. Finally I even don't fear anymore to forget them. Effectivily writing down the article is part of 'sorting' and extending the knowledge involved.

My role was to connect the useful brainwaves of brain-'mutants' like Nietzsche, Wittgenstein and Kuhn, with continuous 'knowledge' as represented by Popper (but started by another brain-mutant named Descartes). In other words, to finish the Popper-Kuhn debate.

Nowadays we have concepts to help to understand what happened. Not totally, but it helped me to make sense of what was happening, and to expect nothing. I only sincerely hope that brain neurology uses the possibility to study my brains BEFORE I'm dead.
Personally I must say that being the first one in a new paradigm is a constant source of fun, but also VEEEEEEERY frustrating. People around me make my life worthwhile, because the new insights are still ONLY rewarding for myself. It's like telling jokes to yourself, you have to be able to enjoy life in your own.

Mutancy not only exists, but is much more interesting and sophisticated than is imagined in the brute power beings in movies. And possibly only few brain mutants realize to be different. I don't believe in conspiracy theories, but I see no reason whatsoever why egoistic partially genial brain-mutants couldn't adapt unnoticed, and become extremely successful leading captains of industry.

Often someone with the same flash of mind, fails being an initiator. The reason is mostly a mix of lack of stubbornness and having not enough social status. Because that's what generally makes initiators/prophets special in their own 'family of thought'. Their flash of mind only made them enter the new paradigm, what distinguishes initiators is that they by endless perseverance succeed in making the others follow (even if only after death).
When 'ordinary' individuals ventilate revolutionary thoughts, being lucky means being ignored and being unlucky means ending up in a mental hospital. I only dare to write this article because I know that I was a successful engineer and score very high on IQ. And off course because I go my own way, I'm near to stubborn, and allowed to say unaccepted things because of being savely stowed in a nursery home.

In Western society people who had enough status to cause paradigm shifts were always scientists. That's because here science became close to being a worshipped religion. But there is no other reason at all why a Shakespeare or a Steinbeck couldn't cause a paradigm shift. Or somebody unknown, but with the needed qualities.

The anomaly in the present paradigm that will lead quite soon to a shift got different names. It is in scientific worlds (philosophy, sociology) known as The Popper-Kuhn debate, but also in religious worlds seen as Absolutism versus Relativism or in social surroundings known as 'being conservative or being progressive'. These are the worlds affected by this paradigm shift, so it is a major one.

For me acting as initiator it is like playing a computergame. Every day I'm surprised by the increasing traffic to my sites.

Changes in views in the meantime travel much faster. They have the speed of communication. Jesus started a process of change of 5 ages, in a time that speed of communication was speed of walking. In the meantime the Partial Paradigm shift of Einstein only took a few decades, because of telephone and newspapers.

In the time of internet the speed of communication got a different meaning. Now its message can reach people in within a second, but first they have to find it. The prophet or initiator should now master both communication and communication technology. In the Western World that combination of being able to handle feelings, and posses the technical skills to fully use this talent became extremely scarce.
In worlds dominated by ratio it became like having the power to controll communication of the rich, and the skill to use it of their master slaves (engineers). Internet provided for me the opportunity to controll communication without being rich, by using my technical skills.

My having enjoined both social sciences and math on a university level finally pays off. Internet makes me feel like a extremely fast fish in world connecting waters. Not a shark hunting for food, but having shark mentality. A mind tornado: mostly peaceful like a dolphin and sometimes murderous like a shark.

brainstormPlease DON'T make the mistake to think that paradigm shifts are harmless, and presume that you can hide for such storms. They can be as devastating as typhoons, and have a healthy appetite for artificial careers. But similar to neutron bombs they only affect humans (in this case only those hiding in certain paradigms), not the hardware.
Everybody survives, but whole careers may be changed. People with flexible minds make the best chance of getting away without much damage. The inevitably needed flexibility is found most in young people.


A paradigm shift does NOT itself directly change individuals, but only has a tunnel opened into an adjacent slightly more advanced paradigm. The tunnel is made in a fraction of a second in their mind, and instantaneously expands people's fantasy. The paradigm shift causes the 'brainstorm' that creates the associative flash to 'dig' this tunnel (brain corridor). Any paradigm shift attracts for a long stay terrible thunderstorms inside people's brains.

For instance imagine quasi stubborn professors who still cling to the old paradigm and most of their more flexible students already safely arrived in the new one. Like professors still desparately struggling before the opening between the two adjacent paradigms, and their students in safe surroundings immediately starting to juggle with the seemingly familiar new ideas. When such professors finally give up and arrive in the next paradigm, superficially not much seems changed, but in time whole careers may be wrecked. In case they don't give up, the old paradigm remains but people in it are not able to communicate with the ones in the new paradigm about the changed concepts. They just keep using the old concepts. In that field paradigms act like parallel disjoint worlds (incommensurability). The two 'camps' might discuss till doomsday, they'll will never meet on paradigm shift subjects.

Paradigm shifts travel with the speed of communication, so in this time of Internet they can reach their destination extremely fast. But the speed of receiving is essential. On their way they cause for a long time annihilating 'brainstorms' in all brains inside certain paradigms that received the message. Such storms are heavier if one is attached more to the old paradigm.

How does a paradigm shift attract such brainstorms? That is done by the initiator by producing many in the old paradigm controversial articles, AND by taking care that they are read. He/She is the one who smoothens the jump between old and new concepts, and thus makes jumping easier. That way his/her talents of communication are decisive.In the last Partial Paradigm shift scientists admired the geniality of Einstein. But he was a poor communicator, and even smart scientists got lost in his continuously changing fantasy world.

A proverb that pictures a paradigm shift very well is the Dutch saying: when first one sheep has crossed the dam, more will steadily follow.
Until in the end uncontrolled and fast like a herd of wild cows crossing a white water river crowded with crocodiles.


Before Columbus like being only one invisible member of a vast obedient white flock everybody in the open would profess a strong belief in the world being flat. Even most scientists, also if they secretly were 'black sheep'.
After Columbus it suddenly became sheepish to admit to the same belief. The whole herd had turned black, but again was seen as white.


And the pope, used to handling flocks of sheep, wisely for a long time didn't refer to this subject....

Terrorism and concept 'Death'

To make a fresh start after fall of the Roman Empire the Roman Catholic Church invented some ethical concepts that before were totally unexisting. Until then 'pain' was un unfamiliar concept. That explains the seemingly cruelty of ancient cultures, and their death sacrifices. When loosing a leg a person thought "oops, one leg less". Or when being sacrificed: "I'm the celebrity of our culture". Death was more something like an orgasm before entering a different life.


The views on death and as a consequence on the valuing of death through 'terrorism' differ considerably in the major cultures. Christianity got used to considering death as end of life. In Christianity death became feared, and in some Christian societies developed a death denying culture. Killing outside punishment therefore is considered as a crime against life.
Buddhism and Islam sea death more as an integral part of life. A chosen death can be seen as a cry of life, and CAN be honorable. Even when killing bystanders. In Islam some forms of "Jihad" are tolerated (but not without discussion). Japan knows the concept "Kamikaze". Even Christianity has the concept 'martyr'. But in no culture it is honorable to drop atom bombs on inocent citizens.

Killing innocent others and not risking life yourself is just criminal, but honorable death is a widely known concept.

All cultures acknowledge crimes against life, but their views on life differ.

The major cultures have no big difference at all in notions. But there are some small ESSENTIAL differences in view.

A paradigm shift is a mood change in a major part of a culture, at a certain moment. That may after start take a year or so before erupting, but when started is virtually impossible to stop. And it already started.

The observed mood changes until now were caused by word concepts (abstract thinking) but they could be caused by any sense experience. Because of domination of rationalism in the western (christian) world, western youth seems more open to sound experience (music) than to similar concepts in words. But senses like smell and taste can in principle cause cultural change as well.

Music and Movies are strong mood conveyors. And present especially musical expressing is highly revolutionary, and at the same time it is valuing almost lost abstract concepts in another way. Take for instance the notion 'respect', music is full of it.
It takes pages of words to express a single mood, but music cleverly combined with visual expression and visual symbols can 'emit' such a mood directly. When necessary the present video clips use a minimal amount of words.

Disck Jockeys should be seen as 'Mood Guides', many of them are masters in creating moods. They mainly combine written abstract logic, sound and sight. But all highly abstract. In fact some of them belong on university somewhere within the departments philosophy or sociology. Such departments after more than 2 ages of domination by written abstract logic should now enter the 'sight and sound' stadium.
Opposed to the mind worlds of movie and music, the traditionally important mind worlds in conveying ethical values (philosophy and sociology) are not swinging at all.

The 20th century was a confusing age. The paradigm shift caused by Einstein as said only influenced the mathematical part of science.
There it connected the absolute Newtonian physics with relative physics. But social life remained based on absolute principles.
Two Word Wars accentuated the confusion. Born after those wars I met the schisma in a sympathetic teacher of physics who taught me very well the Newtonian principles but was confused about those of Einstein. It made me decide to chose for the 'relative' conceptual clarity of mathematics. But during all of my university study I felt confused about unstable concepts.
I'm working on another paradigm shift, joining 'Enlightened Absolutism' and Relativism in Social Sciences and social life in general. I expect acceptance around 2010, resulting in a stable 21th century.

Statistic don't lie I learned in math. They can be used in lies though. I started this site in its first appearance end July 2003 with about 1 or 2 visitors per week. Now (16 october 2003) the site has grown to 5 times it initial size. Traffic grew from 1 or 2 per week to 50 mainly scientific visitors per day. For porn sites this would be considered as nothing, but for a philosophy site it's promising. Within 3 months a growth from 0.15 to 50. That looks exponential.
(In the meantime 2 times after major 'Google dances' traffic dropped to almost zero. Dum coincidence, Googlebot doesn't recognize sites with exponential growth, if they are not edited dayly. Back to anonimity, but only slowing down 'popularity'. End 2006 the number of daily visitors again oscillates between 50 and 100). This time directly AFTER a Google Dance.


Accepting different realities

Even after joining, it it ESSENTIAL for real understanding to be taught the basics of ALL known major paradigm lines at young age. Including important words and the tales behind them. Teaching should be done by real members of that culture. That is really multicultural education.
In fact in all 3 major paradigm line intelligence is cultured. Only the definition of it needs revising.

Major Paradigm Shifts in History
