The total of human reality is space. Human Reality comes in different densities: black hole, black star, star, meteorite, planets, clouds, energy fields, DNA, paradigms, ...atoms, electrons, ...
Human reality is completely 'centered around' DNA, DNA is an archive of evolution and creates a superparadigm. Paradigms are cultural filters, kind of gravity fields in the brain, and are try outs towards more DNA.
Paradigms always are there, only your own standpoint changes. Don't confuse paradigms and 'conceptual schemes',
paradigms consist of behaviors and schemes are 'theory'.
Major paradigms are 'sticky', addictive. To be in such a paradigm is like being a tiny insect in a soap bubble, whose reality is filtered. The 21st Century economic recession is a sign that concepts likes 'me' and 'you', 'mind', 'understanding', 'individualism', ...seriously need revision. Some major paradigms are very old, and became like fog fields consisting of trillions of micro paradigms that paralyze many humans. Until the 20st century major human cultures succeeded in staying 'independent' for a large part. Being succesful in your own paradigm was 'sufficient'. In the 21st century being able to 'play' with paradigms has become a necessary condition of human life. Like being able to appreciate mixes of different drugs, without getting addicted.
Since many thousands of years Ways of Life for humans started as
ritual, religion, science, ...(conceptual schemes).
Ritual, religious, rational, ...behavior (obeying some conceptual scheme) became a very sticky paradigm when almost worldwide
cultures were forced to consider 'rationality' as the way things are (by 4 related empires: Roman Catholicism, Islam, Great Britain and US Empire).
ALMOST without being able anymore to sense something outside this 'frozen' view on life (law and order).
A paradigm shift is the jump from one paradigm to a bigger one: abrupt enlarging of the former paradigmImagine a paradigm as a 'forcefield' for behavior. When the paradigm is in paralysis change only happens INSIDE this shrinking 'forcefield'. A DEEP commitment to a particular way of viewing the world feels like huge change, but is only very superficial change. A paradigm shift stops the shrinking and expands the 'forcefield' in one jump to a significantly bigger paradigm. Example: in Western Society 'growth' (revaluing of sense experience) practically stopped. As seen in things like 'war on terrorism', fights with only 'words', corruption, .... It is hightime to merge the rigid, but very strong, western paradigm around 'ratio' in the much bigger still growing, but feable, worldwide paradigm around intuition. |
What causes a major paradigm shift?

Major paradigm shifts are VERY rare, but inevitably happen when life is drifting away from intuition.
When the dominant behavior day after day collides with bodily intuition and most people get more and more unhappy.
1) the Way of Life (paradigm) is dying and became a threat. 'Law and order' became paralysis and kills change. 2) truth vacuum: defense in dominant Way of Life ('war on terrorism') brutally smothers new ways. 3) absolutism: irrefutable indications ignored, that the Way of Life that is desperately defended is a dying paradigm . A paradigm shift to a stable subreality starts when 'the young' get fed up and challenge 'law and order' with new skills (like internet). Acceleration might be some prophet with fitting vision, and who with an ethical-thunderbolt shocks the dominant way of life. Younger researchers start to see new ways (most elder ones die with their Way of Life, ferociously fighting 'terrorism'). |

Conditions for paradigm shift in 'US + Western Europe' = 'Rational Way of Life': 1) increasing signs that 'understanding' is only a logical tool and currently utterly fails. 2) 'Rational World (World of Understanders) desperately fights an increasing number of 'outbursts' as incidents; 3) 'Understanders' (politicians, captains of industry + scientists) got 'stuck' (paradigm paralysis). How to relax the paradigm in paralysis in a sudden shift to a 'bigger' paradigm that includes adjacent paradigms?: stop fighting change with 'war on terrorism' . Accept that English has become the new world language, realize that individual career and individual profit are non-sense, that individual death is a totally unimportant part of life, , .. and start living in a world together with all fellow beings. Ancient Maya Culture vanished after people quite physically sensed (paradigm shift) that local nature was overexploited and would not revive within their lifetime. In the 21st century the whole earth is suffering over-exploitation, so fleeing is no solution. |
The Way things are = PARADIGM (Standpoint for looking into Space)

A "paradigm" (like: 'mind' rules over matter) is culturally accepted as 'the way things are' (like: reality is 'rational). It becomes our invisible 'subreality in reality'. Most people never manage to look outside the subreality, and deny this 'handicap' fanatically when confronted with it. The windows in this subreality block part of reality, and transforms and filters the rest. On earth human reality is already filtered in common sense, so local human common sense also is a paradigm (a layer in SUBspace) that dominates: Paradigm-behavior = What we see in our subreality = truncated, transformed and filtered reality. Training of paradigm-behavior to handle sense experience (religion = training of emotional spasm like 'ratio') and Doubt of common sense (when it doesn't fit the inherent conceptual scheme of the paradigm) Practicioners of Western Science (generally called 'scientists') have invested their entire being in mastering the scientific window as conceptual scheme in the box Rational Paradigm that their earlier colleagues have created with 'scientific laws' within the bigger box Aristotelian Paradigm since Kant, Descartes, Aquinas and Aristotle. A Major Paradigm Shift shatters walls and windows around the 'Western World / Catholic Paradigm / Rational Paradigm' (based on the dualism good-evil ; TRUE-FALSE). That is MUCH more than window cleaning like Thomas Kuhn describes as: a drastic change of basic view WITHIN 'science' (religion), The earth box Earth Reality of handling sense experience became known as 'common sense'. Common sense follows local conditions. Now and then an in itself tiny subparadigm becomes totally dominant (a local prejudice like 'understanding' grows like a virus). At present most of earth is suffering severely from the subparadigm 'rationality' (disguised absolutisms like 'thinking' and 'understanding'). And this paradigm grows at virus-speed (almost like a fractal engine). In the infected part of earth after initial furious resistence (terrorism) such a local virus-paradigm, after all 'terrorists' were killed, is finally accepted as, 'normal', 'obvious', 'the way things are'. A Major Paradigm Shift is recognized first by a TINY top of the human population (with very sensitive senses and often of young age) outside the WesternWorld. 'The way things are' changes abruptly for them after an 'intellectually violent' period, finding websites with more than un-'rational' views on part of life. This tiny creative tip of the human population then acts as seeds for exponential change. New paradigms will keep coming forever. Reaching 'the right one' is absolute thinking, suggesting that change is limited. |
PARADIGM = Branch of tree Evolution

In a major PARADIGM the sum of forces locks practically all humans in a
'cultural paralysis' (e.g. Israeleans in 'defense' mode). The 'Rational World' since Enlightenment started believing in its own myth 'understanding'. Westerners suppress emotion when reading newspapers or when watching tv, and practice 'understanding'. 'Understanding' (reason without emotion) for a few ages produced amazing results. But in the 21st century it only results in detaillism, paradigm paralysis, and in fear of death outside save surroundings of the 'rational paradigm'. Then evolution 'flashes' (shift) and the 'paralysis' relaxes. A local cultural recession creates the circumstances for a Reality Lightning (paradigm shift) to 'unlock' spasm behavior ('rational' science). Kuhnian Paradigm Shifts only repair (small correction) 'science. That total paradigm shifts abruptly redirect 'science' is vehemently resisted by traditionally 'law and order' . Shouting .. bla bla TERRORISM bla bla .. they urge for War on Terrorism. Or screaming UNIQUE 'economical' disaster they spend trillions of dollars to keep this failing 'economy' upright. Such pharisees cling to their status and claim that when a new scientific paradigm is accepted, that the new 'science' is always a predictable extension of existent 'science (absolutism). And see no problem whatsoever when their spastic zombies (for instance as Nazis, Mugabe-fanatics, bank top-managers, ..) go on with ritual torture until death of all 'humans who deny THE RULES'. |
Any culture on earth developed by evolutionary fitting of the local survival traditions into behavior.
Reality Lightnings are VERY rare Reset Routines to escape from a paralyzed local cultural spasm (like Roman Christian or Mohammedan). The Flash of Insight raises common sense sense sounds of hope (moods) and creative beings totally 'massage' the isolated local cultural spasm, and start integrating it in own cultural behavior. The paradigm shift (structured variation) means a redirected way of 'puzzling'. An EXTREMELY attractive style is needed to 'whisper' moods in an absolute good-evil bubble toward flexible relativism. |

Without realizing Western Civilization still fanatically behaves as Fort Western World
(a deep commitment to a particular way of viewing the world), isolated itself with very difficult to pass paradigm borders,
and exploits the world outside Outside the box 'Western World' people realize in a flash that Western World inhabitants are only called 'rational' because of their commitment to the view caused by their selfmade spectacles of brand 'Rational'. Not because 'rationality' is superior or even makes sense. 
'Rational' glasses for sure produce a view on reality, but such a 'rational' view might be in paradigm paralysis.Using rational spectacles then means that they are stuck in some subreality. Rational prisoners treat immigrants from outside the paralysis as unwelcome fugitives, and chase attackers of their paralyzed world as 'terrorist'. BEHAVIOR like found in any any religion. Evolution produced DNA to store 'wise' growth. |

You should distinguish Back to Growth Paradigms and Kuhnian or Maintenance Paradigms, or Cultural Change (Storm) and Cultural Rain.
The interesting thing about Back to Growth is that it feels familiar. Because it is a restart at a earlier point. So it takes some time before Back to Growth is recognized as refinding growth. But even with this 'handicap' Back to Growth cannot be stopped EXTREMELY rare Back to Growth Paradigm Shifts (Reality Flips) might be compared to eartquakes. These phenomenons mix at least 2 dominant cultures into 1, and might be worldwide. Evolution pulls the emergency break and refreshes the basics of life. |

It's a arrogant mistake to see paradigm shifts only as western scientific paradigm shifts . You have to judge these phenomena by valueing changes in reality. That means in terms of existing IDEAS like 'relativity theory' or 'quantum theory' paradigm shifts might seem unsignificant, but paradigm shifts have devastating consequences. A weather forecast (theory) might predict "no rain", but is the shower next day that counts. An 'economic' theory might predict 'economic growth' in a few months or years, but it is the misery of 99% of the people that counts
I guess that people just recognize an Major Paradigm Shift after MANY MANY years and when amidst of it. Realize that such a total paradigm shift is only unfamiliar because it's VERY unique. In the 21th century it is initiated by a disabled engineer in a nursery home. And often the reaction is desperate and even murderous defense (this time in The Western World) ), and desperate fighting of the by-effects of the cultural tornado TOTAL Paradigm Shift (War on Terrorism). Funny enough more defense only means bigger explosion. Essential cultural changes may only be mentally survived by flexible behavior. A present eye opening example is the clash between the 'rational' and emotional Paradigms in the Middle East, as shown by the Israel Palestine Conflict. 'Giving and taking' is needed from ALL countries directly or indirectly part of one of the two sides of the specific conflict. At present a Major Paradigm Shift is developing, that will also 'solve' this conflict. On The Phillippines this 'sense tornado' is already recognized. This confirms my very strong intuition that modern 'Polynesia' is the center of the next worldculture and is assisted by Buddhism as motor. And that this super-sense-volcano eruption is especially experienced as life changing in Puritan America. |
Paradigm made totally Easy
Consider a sick 'paradigm' as cause of a depression within common sense. That depression is built with elementary fantasies (like in the Western Paradigm 'spirit' and 'understanding'), but is only known as a cumulative fantasy (like 'the Western World'). In itself a fantasy like 'spirit' is NOTHING, but as sense-hallucination it 'grows' by some sense receptor giving it some 'sense' (giving it a feeling). If the relating feelings of fantasies like 'spirit' and 'reason' are highly convincing (in some culture), then such fantasies spread and might even become a local 'virtual reality'. If 'paradigm' basics (like 'spirit' and 'reason') are taken as absolute this causes Wars on Terrorism, Jihads, etcetera. A Total Paradigm Shift (Reality Reset) is returning from the local depression to world wide Common Sense. A Reality Reset (Total Paradigm Shift) is drastic indeed, but not in a 'power way' Depressed people suddenly see fellow people again as also struggling familiar beings. Not anymore as 'competitors' or 'terrorists'. Water again is recognized as twinkling life source, not as dull basic for hydrogen bombs or rocket fuel. Change is not linear (time is a concept, only useful to measure wear in technology). Change is jumping from paradigm to paradigm, with quasi linear change 'in between The ruling 'paradigm' ends in 'trembling' (fast non-change), and finally needs a jump back to common sense. The present dominant 'Western paradigm' is a depression based on a tricky Aristotelian dual view, that resulted in hallucinations like 'god', 'creation', 'spirit', 'understanding', 'consciousness', 'continuity', 'time'. Believing that reality is 'designed' by some Supreme Being (who also equipped human brain with an IMMATERIAL spirit, preprogrammed to 'understand' his 'creation. Sense Languages express temporary sense reality in sense logic. Kuhnnian paradigm shifts only repair the already dominant paradigm 'science', a Reality Reset is leaving the addictive depression 'Western World' (dominant paradigm) and a return to common sense Jumps in 'history' are jumps in language. The 21st century Reality Redesign (Total Paradigm Shift) is about use of sense language on earth. The next paradigm shift MIGHT be about how to communicate with other mammals, and in space. A paradigm shift changes sense language, resulting in new reactions on sense experience. Then a culture consists of members who share a sense-language, an ethics, and a lot of fantasies |

Of course the duality in rationality has its meris as a tool, but nevertheless a return to cultural relativism is necessary.
Immanuel Kant finished Enlightenment by making rationalism the generally in the Western World
used branch of accepted evolution (logic) by using logic as methaphysics.
This finally resulted in egoism and loss of respect, resulting in more and more disappearing of intuition, combined with compromising.
The essence of the new paradigm is revalueing of intuition.So the choice is between seeing have-lots and have-nots as members of the same family or going seeing have-lots as superior human beings that throw left-overs at the animal-like have-nots. By intuition all people know, being rich has no relation whatsoever to deserving respect. I.e. The choice between wisdom combined with return of respect and continuing the abstract couple money and power thinking.
